Juicing

The Movies "Fat, Sick and Dead" & "Forks Over Knives" has changed my life for the better.    We all know what is good for us... we don't need people to tell us what we should be doing... "go to school", "eat better", "exercize" and so forth.  But I think that we do what is Good for us when it is something we want for ourselves and not because people say we should be doing it.

For a long long time i've been trying to lose weight.  Yea, I have a gym membership. Evident by the mini membership card hanging off my key ring. Yea I try to making bethttp://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=3274755562320229396ter food choices when it comes to eating.  Yea, I talk about my youth when I was super fit and healthy.  But it's all talk.

Now, after watching these two mentioned movies,  something clicked!
It all made sense finally. My brain finally got it!
i'm a good 30 pounds over an ideal weight. My cholesterol is out of control as is my blood pressure and i'm not one for taking pills.  Funny thing about pills.... when it comes to supplements, I don't mind taking pills but for some reason taking medication for health problems bothers me.  I quit taking them. I finally figured out why.... taking medication is a sign of ill health and of getting older.  Two things we don't want to be a constant reminder to us.

So, back to the movies....

I started Juicing!  Took it easy at first.  I've learned over my years that anything done "cold turkey" (drastic changes) isn't good for me and i'm sure for most people.  For a new habit to stick, it needs to be started gradually so it can last long enough to make it a habit. The first week of my Juicing Experience I just introduce a Mean Green vegetable juice to my everyday  meals. As the days went by, I increased the quantity of my juice and lowering the quantity of my solid foods. By the Second week, I started a Juice Fast!  That lasted 2 days.

I realized that I needed some solid food.
Funny thing was that I was full off the juicing by what I craved was chewing!  And gum wouldn't cut it.
The body has a habit of smelling food as it approaches the mouth. Then tasting it as it chews it.  This is what i was missing.  So i started eating solid foods but I made a good choice by sticking with veggies.  I would take a bell pepper, some mushrooms, some onion and grill that up and eat it with some flaxseed corn chips.  I would only allow myself a few scoops of my veggie meal at a time through out the day  and this made all the difference in the world.

Since then, about 9 weeks now, i've been down 20 pounds. And this is without exercise.
More than the weight loss, the Amazing feelings of energy and inner health has been more than I expected.

I have been meaning to write about this from the beginning but never got around to it but here I am finally.

I recently did a pure 5 day juice fast and it was great!  I didn't think i would be able to do it but with the support of family and friends and fellow friend and co-worker who did it as well, it made it easier and possible.  I'm already looking forward to another 5 day juice fast.  The mental and physical awareness is more than i thought it would be and it has been and amazing experience so far.

So here I am now....  wishing I had done this a long time ago.  But one thing is for sure....this new way of eating seems to be a  habit now and will continue for a long time to come.

Women are a funny lot

So, i'm at a work christmas party today and i'm sitting at the bar chatting it up with a friend. A female friend. And attractive female friend.  A childhood friend from another office (this is a multi-office party).

what's funny is that if I wasn't talking with her, most of the other party guests would just let me be, but since I was talking to this good looking girl, it seemed like every girl i know wanted attention.

Even my friend whom i was chatting it up with  pointed this out to me.  She was starting to become a little annoyed that as we kept to ourselves, someone else came by to get me into conversation and always another female.  She found this quite humorous.

still awake

it's my 3rd. day with this Flu.

I actually called in sick to work today.  Something I don't like to do unless i'm just to tuckered out.  And i'm tuckered out.

I always feel guilty for calling in sick to work when I know it's going to be a busy day and i think today was a busy day.

it's half past midnight and finishing up my ThereFlu medicine.

I doubled the dosage just to make sure it put's me to sleep soon.  I hope I don't wake up to doped up from this.

I have to be awake in 6 hours.

Good thing tomorrow is only a half day of work.

Time to sleep..... come on now.... Sleep... where are you?

My first Blog

Well, this is the first time i have done a blog.   Never thought I would start one but i read a blog from The Plano Cyclist after finding a link from MonkeyLectric (facebook) on adding lights for visibility on a bicycle .   And so i commented on his blog and after wards i got the option to start my own and I though "why not?"

And now.... Here I am.

This is my bicycle.
In the summer, I started riding to work a couple times a week.  I never thought I would because I thought it was too far but my best friend said I could and with his support, i gave it a try.
i'm not in shape, least of all cardiovacularly.  Another reason why i thought i could not ride all the way to work. The path I take is a total of 13 miles each way.

I found the ride fun, therapeutic and great exercise. And saving gas was a big plus!  I am blessed that the majority of my ride is on the beach bike path starting in Dockweiler beach, through Manhattan, Hermosa and finally through Redondo Beach. But to get to the bike path, I have a busy highway to ride and visibility was an issue.  I had the blinking red light on the rear of my bike and a white light on my handle bars but I just felt that I could add more.

I also ride a Honda Goldwing Motorcycle and I have several l.e.d. lights on it for fun and visibility and I thought I could add them to my bicycle.  So I did.

At first, just a pair of white l.e.d.'s down the fork, then a couple blue l.e.d.'s on the side (above video) all powered by a couple batteries bridged together to make the 12 volts needed.

Since this video was taken, I added 2 sets of Red l.e.d.'s to the rear and another blue set to the sides.  I wanted a battery source that was rechargeable and longer lasting so I bought and strapped to the rear saddle bag cages a marine deep cycle 12v. battery which i keep connected to a Battery Tender so it always fully charged.

I'm sad to say that since I added all the lights and battery, I got sick and fell off the bandwagon and have yet to ride this bike to work.

When I stared riding in the summer, the morning and evening temps here were perfect!  but now, the mornings start at around 40 degrees and it's far to cold for me to ride a bicycle 13 miles.  Now, that's not the real excuse... I know I can wear some thermals and get back on the 2 wheels and have fun but getting up early for the morning ride is tough.  I need an hour and a half for the ride and i don't exactly keep the best sleep hours.

I hope... no...  I plan on resuming my cycling soon.  Very soon.
